Gran Estreno’s career ends with ankle injury

Eight-year-old Gran Estreno, a multiple graded stakes winner, broke both sesamoids in his right front ankle joint during a workout Monday morning at the Fair Grounds and has been retired by his connections. “It was tragic, just horrible,” trainer Mike Stidham said, adding that there “was never a question about trying to save him.”
