Old Friends to hold Memorial service for six retired horses

The horse retirement facility, Old Friends, has scheduled a public service for Memorial Day to remember six retired Thoroughbreds that have died since last spring.  They are:  The Wicked North, Polish Navy, Bonnie’s Poker, Glitterman, Jade Hunter and Academy Award. The service will take place at 2 p.m. Monday at Old Friends in Georgetown, KY.

Eclipse winner The Wicked North euthanized

1994’s champion older horse, The Wicked North, was euthanized Thursday due to complications from intestinal lipoma strangulation.  He was 22 and had been pensioned at the Old Friends equine retirement facility since 2008.

Dam of Pleasantly Perfect, Regal State, dies

Regal State, whose son Pleasantly Perfect won the 2003 Breeders’ Cup Classic was euthanized Friday because of complications from old age.  She was 28.

Silver Goblin, 2nd to Cigar, dies at 20

Newbury considers rescheduling Saturday card after horse deaths

In what may have been an accidental electrocution, two horses died in the paddock at Newbury on Saturday and the card was postponed. The post mortem on what happened to Fenix Two and Marching Song has not been completed yet.
