Trainer Mark Casse confirmed to Horse Racing Radio Network's Equine Forum that last-out allowance winner Lynn's Map would be scratched from Saturday's Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes at the Fair Grounds, in which he had drawn the outside post in a field of 14. Instead, the 3-year-old son of Liam's Map will be pointed to next weekend's Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park, offering the same number of Kentucky Derby points to the winner (10).
Lynn's Map drew post eight of nine in the Smarty Jones, though he faces three stakes winners from the barn of trainer Steve Asmussen: Shoplifted, Silver Prospector, and Gold Street. Grade 1 winner Nucky will also make his 3-year-old debut in the Smarty Jones.
“It's the step to say, can you run with the best 3-year-olds in North America?” Casse asked on Equine Forum. “We'll have to wait a week to find out.”
