TCI: Previewing The Preakness Stakes

by | 05.19.2017 | 8:40am

The TCI guys break down the middle jewel of the American classics, and tell you if Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming has what it takes to win Saturday's Preakness and head to New York for a shot at the Triple Crown.

Can Classic Empire turn the tables, or will both he and Always Dreaming get involved too much with each other early on and set it up late for a longshot closer? Which of the longshots have the best chance to play the role of spoiler if the two heavy favorites fall short?

I agree with your pick Always Dreaming, he is the proven dominator of this field
and as long as he doesn’t go squirrely and run rank I think he’ll win.

Only 2 horses appear to have a tendency to be alert starters, Always Dreaming and Conquest
Mo Money, it makes it easier for them to choose their path.
Conquest Mo Money has two options from post #10.
Break and run with Always Dreaming and sit off his flank,
or let Classic Empire run with Always Dreaming and track them.

Classic Empire is faced with a dilemma:
Should he try and run with Always Dreaming from the start or take back?
If he does Always Dreaming won’t get position on him.
Should he take back and track the leaders?
If he takes back Always Dreaming can get position and be too tough to catch, similar
to Sunday Silence defeating Easy Goer in the Preakness.

I enjoy your show as always.
