Dual Grade 1 winner Practical Joke is nearing his 3-year-old debut for trainer Chad Brown, and signaled his readiness with an easy half-mile breeze at Palm Meadows Training Center on Sunday. The son of Into Mischief worked in :48.19 in company, according to drf.com, and galloped out in 1:00.60 and 1:14.00.
“He worked great,” said Brown. “It was just a maintenance move. He's ready to go. He's really strengthened and become a much better work horse as a 3-year-old and I'm really excited to get him started.”
Practical Joke is expected to start in Saturday's G2 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park to kick off his 2017 season. He will face a tough group in the 50-point Kentucky Derby prep race, including Holy Bull winner Irish War Cry, Gunnevera, Three Rules, Takaful, and Made You Look.
