Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith will ride Palace Malice in the Kentucky Derby, it was reported Monday in the Daily Racing Form.
Palace Malice, a colt from the first crop of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin, finished a close second in the G1 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes April 13. Dogwood Stable owns the bay colt, who was also third in the G3 Risen Star Stakes.
Garrett Gomez rode Palace Malice in the Blue Grass, but had already committed to riding Vyjack in the Kentucky Derby.
