A possible shin fracture will keep Runaway Ghost from competing in this year's Kentucky Derby, according to bloodhorse.com. The 3-year-old Ghostzapper colt breezed six furlongs in 1:13.80 on Saturday at Sunland, but came out of the breeze a bit sore.
“It looks like he's got a little fracture in his shin,” said trainer Todd Fincher. “He started to show some soreness as we were cooling him out after his work this morning.”
Runaway Ghost will not undergo surgery for the issue, but will require time for the shin to heal. The Sunland Derby winner's defection allows Firenze Fire into the main body of the Run for the Roses.
