Derby day betting handle up 1.3 percent

Commingled handle on Saturday’s Kentucky Derby card climbed $2.1 million (1.3%) from last year, even though bets on or ending with the Derby itself dropped $1.1 million.  Total handle for the 13-race card was $161.1 million, a positive development considering that betting on U.S. racing has been declining 7-10 percent annually in recent years.
