Not long after Dr. Kendall Hansen's 3-year-old Fast and Accurate crossed the wire first in Saturday's G3 Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park, Harvey Diamond of Skychai Racing was prepared to purchase an interest in the son of Hansen, the owner's namesake and Breeders' Cup Juvenile-winning sire; Skychai and Hansen had partnered on the Eclipse Award winner in the past.
Diamond and several Skychai partners attended Dr. Hansen's party on the day of the Spiral, and a deal was made that very evening for Skychai to purchase a 27 percent interest in the colt, according to bloodhorse.com. Since Fast and Accurate is virtually assured a spot in the Kentucky Derby by virtue of his 50-point win at Turfway, Diamond said that the partners are looking forward to the first Saturday in May.
“When people ask why we do this, I tell them, 'Never get in the way of old men and their dreams,'” said Diamond. “Fast and Accurate looks to have more stamina on his dam's side than most of the Hansens. He looks like a genuine 1 1/4-mile horse. Plus his being a Pennsylvania-bred opens up some lucrative possibilities.”
