UAE Derby runner-up Gray Magician was originally listed as questionable for the 2019 Kentucky Derby, but the sophomore son of Graydar has been working well since his return from Dubai. Peter Miller told drf.com that continued progress from the colt will give the trainer enough confidence to enter the Run for the Roses.
On Saturday, Gray Magician breezed a half-mile at Miller's San Luis Rey Downs base in :48 2/5, second-fastest of 24 at the distance.
“I put him with some company to give him a target,” Miller said. “He's going to work next Saturday, and if he works as well as he worked this week, we'll go to Kentucky on Tuesday [April 30].”
