The winner of the G3 Lecomte Stakes at the Fair Grounds, sophomore Guest Suite has continued to impress trainer Neil Howard in his recent morning workouts. The son of Quality Road, a homebred for William S. Farish and Lora Jean Kilroy, is being pointed to the G2 Risen Star on Feb. 25, the next step on the New Orleans-based Road to the Kentucky Derby.
A half-mile work in :47 4/5 on Feb. 7 convinced Howard that the colt is progressing since his Lecomte win, according to bloodhorse.com.
“I think I'm seeing some physical positives with him,” Howard said. “He's a smooth, nice-looking horse, but I think his weight is actually looking really good. I say that cautiously because it's hard to notice that when you look at him every day, but this morning I was impressed when I looked at him. Like all young horses, they're developing, but I'm pleased.”
