A condylar fracture has taken G3 Sham winner Gunmetal Gray off the Kentucky Derby trail, according to drf.com. The 3-year-old son of Exchange Rate breezed at Santa Anita on Sunday, after which the injury was discovered and a surgical repair scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

“It looks fixable,” said Terry Finley of co-owner West Point Thoroughbreds.

Gunmetal Gray also boasts runner-up finishes in the G1 American Pharoah and the G3 Robert Lewis, and he was most recently fourth in the G2 Rebel at Oaklawn. He is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer.
