Beyer: Pharoah ‘Deserves His Place’ In Racing History

Over the course of 37 years, 12 horses prior to American Pharoah have tried – and failed – to win the Triple Crown.

As Andrew Beyer writes in his latest column for the Washington Post, quite often, racing “purists” have “harbored mixed feelings” about some of those horses.

However, even though American Pharoah may not be another Secretariat, Seattle Slew, or Affirmed, Beyer says that “he deserves an exalted place in racing history. He swept the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes at a time when the feat has become more difficult than ever.”
