I'll Have Another is scheduled to move into the new Belmont Detention barn on Tuesday morning while all runners in the Belmont must arrive by noon Wednesday, reports the Boston Globe. Track workers finished fixing up the barn Monday by pressure washing the stalls, adding paint and dark stone to the floors to ensure even footing and repainting the outside of the barn.
Doug O'Neill, trainer of I'll Have Another, is not thrilled by the move but is compliant. Other Belmont trainers Michael Matz and Dale Romans and assistant trainer Jim Barnes, who works for Bob Baffert, all expressed displeasure over the new arrangement. While New York officials did not single out O'Neill for the change, he believes other trainers are unhappy with him because of the change.
“I'm sure Matz and Romans probably want to kill me, but I think it's a good thing,” he said about the detention barn.
