Anothertwistafate has earned 30 Kentucky Derby points, which may or may not be enough to enter the starting gate on the first Saturday in May. The 3-year-old son of Scat Daddy finished a good second in Sunday's G3 Sunland Derby, coming up just a neck short of Cutting Humor. Trainer Blaine Wright told sfgate.com that he was pleased by the colt's effort.
“We didn't get the big money but we saw a lot of positive things,” said Wright. “We faced adversity. Juan (Hernandez, jockey) rode a really good race to back off the fast pace. It's too early to tell about the (Kentucky) Derby. We'll get him home, see how his energy level is. We need him to have an energy level to say we can do it.”
Prior to the Sunland Derby, Anothertwistafate dominated on synthetic in the El Camino Real Derby. Owned by Peter Redekop, the colt was a $360,000 purchase at the OBS June 2-year-old in training sale.
