America's Best Racing (ABR) announced today that its sixth annual Pre-Preakness Party will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at the Mt. Washington Tavern in Baltimore with the support of returning event sponsor Sagamore Racing. The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA), which accredits, inspects, and awards grants to approved aftercare organizations around the country, and the Maryland-based aftercare organization Beyond the Wire will be the beneficiary of all tickets sold as well as a silent auction that will be offered at the event.
The party, which was launched by ABR in 2014, has become the unofficial Preakness week kickoff event for racing fans. In past years, connections of Preakness runners, jockeys, and various other personalities have attended the event. For the first time, this year's party will feature a “Preakness Preview” panel headlined by racing analyst Gabby Gaudet, and it will be moderated by handicapping author Peter Thomas Fornatale. Festivities are set to kick off immediately following the post-position draw for the 144th running of the Preakness Stakes.
Tickets are now on sale at for $20 (tickets will cost $30 on site). The cost of admission includes one drink, a light buffet of bar snacks and appetizers, access to the Preakness Preview panel, and entry into a drawing for a door prize of two tickets to the 2019 Preakness Stakes on May 18 at Pimlico Race Course. Attendees will also have an opportunity to support the TAA and Beyond the Wire through a silent auction featuring items from ABR partners Christine A. Moore Millinery, Old Smoke Clothing Co., Belle Vodka, Sagamore Farm, and the Maryland Jockey Club.
“We're thrilled to again be a beneficiary of this party, along with our friends at Beyond the Wire, and we're grateful for the continued support from America's Best Racing and Sagamore,” TAA Operations Consultant Stacie Clark Rogers said. “We can't wait to kick off a great week of racing with this can't-miss event.”
For the fifth straight year, major support for the event is provided by Sagamore Racing, which is owned by Kevin A. Plank, the chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Under Armour. His farm in Reisterstown, Md., has previously hosted Preakness-week events that provided ABR guests with a behind-the-scenes look at the Thoroughbred breeding and racing industry.
“The Pre-Preakness Party hosted by America's Best Racing grows in popularity each year,” said Hunter Rankin, president of Sagamore Racing. “It's always a special event that allows Thoroughbred racing fans to connect and to recognize the great work being done by the TAA and Beyond the Wire. The Sagamore Racing team looks forward to celebrating this incredible cause for the sixth time with new and returning friends and fans!”
