“There is no disputing Palace Malice and Will Take Charge as the most accomplished runners in Saturday's nine-horse lineup for the $1.5 million Whitney Handicap,” wrote Alicia Wincze Hughes for the Lexington Herald-Leader.
Palace Malice is the morning-line favorite for the race, coming off four straight wins in 2014, including the Grade 1 Met Mile in his last start. Will Take Charge was three year-old male champion in 2013; he was second last time out in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap.
Both of these colts were off the board in the Kentucky Derby, but came back later to win several graded stakes events. They will face fellow four year old Itsmyluckyday, who won the Grade 3 Salvator Mile in his last start, and Moreno, who was second to Will Take Charge in the Travers Stakes last year.
