Don Alberto Stable's Unique Bella put in another lovely workout Sunday morning at Santa Anita, officially timed in 1:11.20 for six furlongs. According to drf.com, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer timed the sophomore daughter of Tapit in 59 seconds for five furlongs, and caught her galloping out in 1:25.35.
“If she continues like she is now, then she's on target for the Santa Anita Oaks,” Hollendorfer said.
With very little competition for Unique Bella in the 3-year-old filly division, and the Kentucky Derby picture cloudier than ever, Hollendorfer has repeatedly been asked if he will start the filly in the Santa Anita Derby. Just like last year with future champion Songbird, Hollendorfer remains firm in his plans to keep her racing against females.
“I haven't had anyone chirping at me to run in the Santa Anita Derby except for people that have nothing to do with the horse,” Hollendorfer said.
