Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi's sophomore filly Rayya will be looking for her first North American victory on Thursday at Prairie Meadows, taking on a field of nine others in the Grade 3, $200,000 Iowa Oaks. The daughter of Tiz Wonderful, trained by Bob Baffert, is the morning-line choice at 5-2 under jockey Joe Talamo.
Rayya was impressive capturing the Group 3 UAE Oaks at Meydan, and finished second to runaway UAE Derby winner Mendelssohn just three weeks later. Shipped to Baffert's barn in California, Rayya was aimed at the Kentucky Oaks, but finished second-last in Louisville after an awkward start.
Another Kentucky Oaks runner, Sassy Sienna, also returns in the Iowa Oaks. The Brad Cox trainee bested recent Queen's Plate winner Wonder Gadot at Oaklawn in April before a sixth-place finish in Louisville.
Cosmic Burst, winner of the G3 Honeybee at Oaklawn, is also entered in the field, as is recent allowance winner She's A Julie for trainer Steve Asmussen.
The full field is as follows:
- Hold Her Tight, 12-1
- She's Our Fastest, 15-1
- Baydar, 20-1
- She's A Julie, 5-1
- Cosmic Burst, 6-1
- Rayya, 5-2
- Testing One Two, 8-1
- Terra's Angel, 10-1
- Sassy Sienna, 4-1
- Tell Your Mama, 15-1
