Trip For A.J. stalked the leaders, then turned it on in the stretch to take the $300,000 Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
Under Johnny Velasquez, Trip For A.J. (6-1) sat fourth down the backstretch, angled outside of tiring frontrunners turning for home and outraced co-favorite Askbut I Won'ttell to the wire. The half-length victory came in 1:49.49 for 1 1/8 miles over a firm Gulfstream turf. Scolara finished third.
Trip For A.J. was bred in Florida by her owner, Peter Fuller. Trained by Milton Wolfson, she's a four-year-old daughter of Trippi out of the Explodent mare, A.J.'s Hot Shot.
