Training opens at Saratoga’s Oklahoma Training Track

It's certainly a more optimistic feeling than last year when the Oklahoma Training Track was opening amid speculation that NYRA may not run a meet at Saratoga and could possibly run out of funds to run the 2010 Belmont Stakes. Whether you believed what New York racing was selling at the time, it'd be hard to argue that they aren't in a better financial situation this year with the Aqueduct racino primed to open in late summer of this year.

“We're encouraged,” said Kerry Metivier of S&K Racing Stable, one of the first three trainers on the Saratoga grounds. “VLTs will mean more purse money, more horsemen, and bigger fields—better racing. If you have the right string of horses, it's going to be a good time to be in New York.”
