Indiana trainer Walter Abner died on Wednesday of a heart attack at the age of 68, according to a report by the Daily Racing Form. Abner ran horses at River Downs, Turfway Park, Churchill Downs, and Keeneland through his 46-year career, but had recently settled at Hoosier Park, Indiana Downs, and Tampa Bay Downs. He was also a member of the Indiana Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association.
Abner is survived by partner Barbara McBride, three children, one stepson, five grandchildren, and a great grandchild, as well as other extended family.
Funeral services will be held at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home in Indiana at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
