Firing Line, winner of the G3 Sunland Derby and runner-up to American Pharoah in the G1 Kentucky Derby, will not race for the remainder of 2015, according to a report in the Blood-Horse.
The 3-year-old colt by Line of David instead will be brought back next year, with his first goal the 2016 G1 Dubai World Cup.
Firing Line was forced to miss the G2 Los Alamitos Derby due to foot problems. Owner Arnold Zetcher and trainer Simon Callaghan have since decided to rest the colt, and focus on next year.
“It's nothing specific,” Callaghan told the Blood-Horse. “We just thought it was the right time to give him a break. It's nothing that needs surgery, and his foot is cleared up, but we just feel the time is right to give him a break. He's done a lot in a short period of time.”
