The Keith Desormeaux-trained juvenile Straight Fire will miss the Breeders' Cup Juvenile next month at Santa Anita, as the colt by Dominus is being shipped to WinStar Farm in Kentucky for a break away from the races, reports the Daily Racing Form.
“He's been sent to Kentucky to WinStar Farm for a little break,” Desormeaux said. “We'll get him back around Dec. 1 and concentrate on a sprint campaign for him next year.”
Straight Fire finished second on debut behind the ill-fated Chasing Aces, who set a track record that day. In his second start, Straight Fire won by 10 1/2 lengths in a wire-to-wire romp over his rivals, and followed that up with a second in the G1 Del Mar Futurity. Most recently, the colt was third in the G1 Frontrunner Stakes at Santa Anita. Should he return to Desormeaux's stable on time, he may well be pointed for the San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita, won last year by Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist.
