Belmont Stakes winner Sir Winston will miss the 2019 summer racing season with an unspecified front ankle injury, according to multiple reports Wednesday. Trainer Mark Casse told media he expects the horse to come back for a 4-year-old campaign, if not this fall.
Casse told Albany Times Union reporter Tim Wilkin he believes the horse injured himself during the Belmont.
Sir Winston is currently recuperating at Casse's Ocala, Fla. farm. The Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup could be a long-term goal for the chestnut.
Casse also said War of Will remains on target for the G1 Travers in late August.
