Silver Max and Robby Albarado cruised to an easy victory by daylight in Sunday's Grade 3 Oceanport Stakes at Monmouth Park. The 4-year-old Dale Romans trainee collected his ninth career win from 20 starts for owners Mark Bacon and Dana Wells. Most recently, the Virginia Derby winner appeared in a third-place finish in the Grade 3 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap.
Silver Max was bred in Kentucky by Steve Snowden and Seth and Will Lauffer. He is the son of Badge of Silver and Kissin Kris mare Kissin Rene.
Howe Great was second, followed by Hudson Steele. The final time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:40.0.
WINNING TRAINER (DALE ROMANS) – “He's just a super quick horse that's capable of laying down some speedy fractions. He just keeps going and going. I only have one other horse in my barn that can match his easy, fluid stride–and that's Little Mike.”
WINNING JOCKEY (ROBBY ALBARADO) – “He broke great and I just held on; there wasn't much to it. I was able to get him nice and relaxed. There was no contention early which was good for him and he finished fast.”
