Australia's beloved racemare, Winx, will have little competition in Saturday's Chipping Norton Stakes, as she looks to extend her winning streak to 31. Some of the best milers in the country, who could've taken on Winx at Randwick, raced in Melbourne last weekend instead, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
So, she's left to face six rivals as she aims for a 23rd Group 1 victory. Five of those challengers come from the stable of her own trainer, Chris Waller. The other is Happy Clapper, a horse facing her for the 10th time.
Happy Clapper's trainer, Pat Webster, admits he doesn't relish facing Winx again, but his horse has performed well, placing behind her in three Group 1 events.
“I can understand why the others are scared of her. I'm scared of her,” said Webster. “But Clapper loves Randwick and he seems to race better after he takes her on.”
