Michael Hui's claimer-turned-Grade-1-winner Zulu Alpha had been pointing to the G1 Old Forester Turf Classic on the undercard for the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, reports drf.com, but the postponement of the Run for the Roses had trainer Mike Maker seeking out an alternative.
Now the 7-year-old gelding is expected to start in this Saturday's G2 Pan American Stakes at Gulfstream, an undercard race for the Florida Derby. A winner last out in the 1 3/8-mile G2 Mac Diarmida on Feb. 29, Zulu Alpha will have to stretch another eighth of a mile for the 1 1/2-mile Pan American.
“He's continued right along in his training,” Maker told drf.com. “He's holding form, doing great. We're excited to see him run again Saturday.”
