Arkansas Derby winner Omaha Beach was being targeted for a comeback in Sunday's Shared Belief Stakes at Del Mar before a slight illness took him out of training. Now, the 3-year-old son of War Front has returned to galloping and will instead target the Grade 3 Ack Ack Handicap at Churchill Downs on Sept. 28, according to drf.com.

The other option for the colt had been the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita on the same day, but that race covers nine furlongs as opposed to the Ack Ack's one-turn mile.

“A mile and an eighth is a little more than I want to do first time out,” trainer Richard Mandella said. “A one-turn mile is a nice way to bring him back.”

Omaha Beach was favored for this year's Kentucky Derby until he had to be scratched the week of the race with an entrapped epiglottis, which required surgery. He has not started since April.
