Pre-Kentucky Derby favorite Omaha Beach, scratched the week of the race with an entrapped epiglottis, executed his first breeze since returning to the track this Tuesday. The 3-year-old War Front colt completed three furlongs at Del Mar in :36.60, fastest of 20 at the distance.
“We're back on the road,” trainer Richard Mandella told drf.com. “He scoped nice after, too.”
The Rebel and Arkansas Derby winner underwent surgery for the entrapment in Kentucky, and returned to California after nearly two months of recovery time. Mandella suggested that the Aug. 25 Shared Belief Stakes could be a possible comeback race for Omaha Beach, but he isn't going to push the colt to make the race.
