Reddam Racing LLC's Nyquist put away his rivals at the top of the Del Mar stretch and won eased up in Saturday's Grade 2, $200,000 Best Pal Stakes.
Ridden by Mario Gutierrez, the bay colt took charge on the far turn and pulled away for a dominant victory, his second win in as many starts.
Swipe was second, and Annie's Candy was third. Final time for the six and a half furlong race was 1:16.84.
Doug O'Neill trains Nyquist, who won by a head over Annie's Candy in his debut June 5 at Santa Anita.
Nyquist is by freshman sire Uncle Mo out of Seeking Gabrielle (Forestry). Bred in Kentucky by Summerhill Farm, Nyquist was purchased by agent Dennis O'Neill for $400,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Florida Select Sale this past March.
