Bear Stables' Noholdingback Bear was the easy winner of Saturday's Grade 3 Gallant Bob Stakes at Parx Racing, galloping under the wire 1 1/4 lengths in front of his fellow sprinters. Under Eurico Rosa Da Silva, the sophomore son of Put It Back covered six furlongs over the fast main track in 1:09 3/5 for trainer Michael De Paulo in his first graded stakes victory.
Settled in third early on, Noholdingback Bear tracked the speed of Navy Hymn and Awesome Speed through an opening quarter in 22 seconds flat. Awesome Speed was the quickest out of the gate, but relinquished the lead to Navy Hymn down the backstretch. Rounding the turn for home, Awesome Speed came back again on the outside to take the lead, but Noholdingback Bear was lying in wait at his flank.
Ranging up three wide into the lane, Noholdingback Bear blew past Awesome Speed to win going away, by a margin of 1 1/4 lengths on the wire. Mind Your Biscuits moved well down the center of the track to be second, with Threefiveindia third after stumbling at the start.
Bred in Kentucky by Jerry Jamgotchian, Noholdingback Bear was a $25,000 Keeneland January purchase as a short yearling. His overall record now stands at 5-4-1 from 11 starts, with earnings of nearly $500,000.
