Nessy Tops 31 Nominees To Gulfstream’s H. Allen Jerkens Stakes

Siena Farms' Nessy tops a list of 31 nominations for next Saturday's $100,000 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

The two-mile stakes honoring the memory the legendary Hall of Fame trainer will headline a program with five turf stakes, including the $100,000 Janus, $100,000 Abundantia, $75,000 Tropical Park Derby and $75,000 Tropical Park Oaks.

Trained by Ian Wilkes, Nessy captured the 1 ¾-mile San Juan Capistrano (G3) at Santa Anita last April after finishing third in the Mac Diarmida (G2) at Gulfstream Park.

Graded-stakes winners Can'thelpbelieving, Village King, Galope Americano, Postulation and Some in Tieme are also prominent among the nominations.

The Janus, a five-furlong dash for 3-year-olds and up, drew 16 nominations, including graded-stakes winners Hogy and Vision Perfect, as well as Pay Any Price, the track and world record-holder for five furlongs on turf.

Trainer Michael Maker saddled Michael Hui's Hogy for a victory in the Canadian Turf (G3) at Gulfstream in March. Mr. Amore Stable's Vision Perfect, who won the Silks Run at Gulfstream in March, was saddled for a victory in the Parx Dash (G3) by trainer Jason Servis.

Averill Racing and Matties Racing's Pay Any Price has won his last four races, all at Gulfstream.

The Abundantia, a five-furlong sprint for fillies and mares, attracted 26 nominations, including Eddie Plesa Jr.-trained Miz Mayhem, who has won six of her last starts, four stakes, for owner Laurie Plesa.

Gary Barber's Lookin to Strike is prominent among 25 3-year-olds nominated for the 1 1/16-mile Tropical Park Derby. The Mark Casse-trained son of Lookin At Lucky is coming off victories in the Ontario Derby (G3) at Woodbine and the OBS Sprint at Ocala Training Center.

Don Alberto Stable's Andina Del Sur and A A A Farms' A. A. Azula's Arch, a pair of graded-stakes winners, were among 3-year-old fillies nominated for the 1 1/16-mile Tropical Park Oaks.
