Wild Dude (inside) takes the Santa Anita Sprint Championship.

A beneficiary of a swift early pace, Wild Dude closed from well out of it to take Saturday's Grade 1, $300,000 Santa Anita Sprint Championship.

Sitting many lengths off opening fractions of :21.44 and :43.93 set by Masochistic and Distinctiv Passion dueling on the lead, Wild Dude rolled home in the middle of the track to win his second career G1.

Kobe's Back came swiftly after a slow break to finish second; Glacken Too was third. Masochistic faded late to finish fourth. Final time for the six furlongs was 1:09.45.

Jerry Hollendorfer trains Wild Dude, a seven-time winner in 18 starts, and is also a co-owner of the 5-year-old son of Wildcat Heir out of the Doneraile Court mare Courtly Choice. Wild Dude was bred in Florida by Versatile Thoroughbreds LLC.
