Stonestreet, George Bolton and Peter Leidel's Lady Aurelia made all the running under Frankie Dettori in Sunday's Prix Morny at Deauville, triumphing over males to earn her first Group 1 victory. Trained by Wesley Ward, the 2-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy crossed the wire three-quarters of a length in front after six furlongs on the turf, following up her G2 Queen Mary Stakes win at Royal Ascot earlier this year.
“I was very excited and elated. It was wonderful,” Ward told racingpost.com. “I trained her a little light to give her a bit of time after she came home (from Royal Ascot) and she came back a little tired after this race, understandably because she wasn't up to what she was at Ascot.”
Dettori explained that he could have won by more, but the filly hit a couple rough patches in the surface and lost some momentum. Up next on her agenda is the Cheveley Park at Newmarket next month, then the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita in November.
“To have a filly like this is once in a lifetime,” Ward continued. “I think she's going to really show what she's got in the coming few races and we're very excited.”
