After 1 3/4 miles on the turf, it came down to a head bob in the Grade 2, $150,000 San Juan Capistrano Invitational Handicap at Santa Anita Sunday, as Juniper Pass got up over longshot Imponente Purse.

With Rafael Bejarano riding, Juniper Pass showed a swift turn of foot in the stretch and got his head down at the right time to win in 2:47.74.  Celtic New Year finished third.

Juniper Pass is owned by Betty or Robert G. Irvin and was bred in Kentucky by Brookdale Thoroughbreds.  Trained by Thomas Bell, he's a four-year-old son of Lemon Drop Kid out of the Coronado's Quest mare, Child Bride.  The victory was his fourth in 12 career starts.
