Kentucky Derby hopeful JP's Gusto drilled a five-furlong bullet in :59 2/5 Sunday morning at Oaklawn Park. Trainer Joe Petalino said the colt had been doing things too easily of late.
“We were looking for something a little sharper,” said Petalino. “That's what he needs because the water is getting a little deeper now.”
Ramon Dominguez is expected to ride JP's Gusto in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn March 19. Dominguez was aboard for the Successful Appeal colt's troubled second place finish in the Southwest Stakes last month.
