Joyful Victory scored an open-lengths win in the Grade 3, $125,000 Honeybee Stakes for three-year-old fillies Saturday at Oaklawn Park.
Under Mike Smith, Joyful Victory sat mid-pack down the backstretch, then looped the field rounding the far turn and scooted away for a six-length win in 1:44.83 for 1 1/16 miles. Holy Heavens was second. Dixie City finished third.
Joyful Victory is owned by Fox Hill Farm and was bred in Ontario, Canada by William D. Graham. Trained by Larry Jones, she' s a daughter of Tapit out of the Wild Again mare, Wild Lucy Black.
The Honeybee was her second career win from four starts and her first graded stakes victory. She was coming off a fifth place finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies November 5 at Churchill Downs.
