Rachel Alexandra fans have eagerly anticipated the first start of Jess's Dream, the first foal out of the 2009 Horse of the Year, and their wait may be down to a matter of weeks. The Daily Racing Form reported Monday that the colt is expected to make his first start in January.
Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin plans to do some more gate work with the son of Curlin, and noted the colt only has one five-eighths breeze under his belt. That work, at Palm Meadows, was 1:00.25 on Dec. 18.
McLaughlin said Jess's Dream, who attracted crowds in his early training at Saratoga this summer, is handling everything well so far.
