Isabelle de Tomaso's homebred Irish War Cry recorded a five-furlong breeze at Fair Hill Training Center on Monday, beginning in company with Spring Quality and pulling away late in a time of 1:01.4. Herringswellstables.com reports that the 3-year-old son of Curlin is being pointed to the Pennsylvania Derby. The Graham Motion trainee was most recently fourth in the Haskell Invitational.
The Sept. 23 Pennsylvania Derby, newly christened a Grade 1 contest, could prove to be pivotal in deciding year-end honors as no clear division leader has emerged following last Saturday's Travers.
Other sophomores reported to be considering the $1.25 million race include Belmont winner and recent fourth-place finisher in the Travers Tapwrit, Travers third-place finisher Irap, Shared Belief stakes winner Battle of Midway, Haskell fifth-place finisher Timeline, Travers sixth-place finisher Giuseppe the Great, and Curlin stakes winner Outplay.
