Hunter's Light took the lead in the final furlong and drew off to win the $250,000 Maktoum Challenge-Round 2 (UAE-II) at Meydan Racecourse Feb. 7.

Ridden confidently by Silvestre de Sousa, Hunter's Light sat just behind the early pace set by stablemate Saint Baudolino through the early stages of the race. In mid-stretch de Sousa asked his mount for more and Hunter's Light responded, taking the lead and drawing off to win by 3 1/4 lengths.

Surfer was second, with Prince Bishop third. Final time for the nine furlongs was 1:59.19 over the Tapeta surface.

A major disappointment in the race was G1 Travers Stakes winner Alpha, who was never better than mid-division throughout much of the race before fading to finish last.
