First time starter Joseph the Catfish evidently decided racing was not for him during Turfway Park's tenth race on Saturday. After getting a poor start, officials say the 3-year-old son of Mineshaft went wide and settled at the back of the pack, appearing green and nervous. Entering the final turn, the Joseph the Catfish took rider Eddie Zuniga extremely wide and dumped Zuniga before leaping the track barrier and galloping off.
Joseph the Catfish took a tour of Florence, Kentucky as he headed for southbound I-75. He made it down Houston Road past a steakhouse and a Target before he was captured by an assistant starter and a veterinarian.
Neither the horse nor rider was hurt.
All of Joseph the Catfish's listed workouts took place at The Thoroughbred Center in Lexington for owner/breeder/trainer Emilie Fojan.
