Juddmonte's Enable may have had just one prep race before this year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, but the 4-year-old filly proved her class with a repeat victory in Sunday's Group 1 feature at Longchamp. The John Gosden-trained daughter of Nathaniel hit the front about 200 yards before the wire, only to face a late threat from 3-year-old filly Sea Of Class who was making up enormous amounts of ground in the final stages and nearly denied Enable a repeat victory.
Frankie Dettori and Enable were just able to hold off Sea of Class (Sea of Stars) by a head on the wire, making her the eighth two-time winner of the Arc de Triomphe. It was Gosden's third Arc win; all of his victories have come in the past four years, first with Golden Horn in 2015 and then back-to-back with Enable in 2017 and 2018. Dettori has now won the Arc a record six times: Lammtarra (1995), Sakhee (2001), Marienbard (2002), Golden Horn (2015), and twice aboard Enable (2017-2018).
After the race, Gosden said he'd like to bid for a third Arc try with Enable in 2019, with owner Prince Khalid's approval. Earlier this week, Gosden also suggested that Enable could continue her campaign with a trip to the United States for the Breeders' Cup.
Sunderland Holding's runner-up Sea of Class is trained by William Haggas and was ridden by James Doyle. The Godolphin-owned third-place finisher Cloth of Stars was saddled by Andre Fabre and ridden by Vincent Cheminaud. Following Cloth of Stars across the finish were: Waldgeist, Capri, Salouen, Kew Gardens, Nelson, Study of Man, Magical, Way to Paris, Tiberian, Talismanic, Patascoy, Defoe, Hunting Horn, Clincher, Neufbosc and Louis d'Or.
She's done it again! Willing and Enable ❤
