Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Game Winner had his second work of 2019 on Sunday at Santa Anita Park, breezing a half-mile in :48.60 for trainer Bob Baffert. The 3-year-old son of Candy Ride is being aimed for the G2 San Felipe Stakes on March 9 as his first start of the season.
“He'll get ready pretty quick,” Baffert told drf.com.
Several other prominent sophomores had workouts on Sunday:
- Baffert trainee Coliseum, most recently sixth in the G3 Sham after a bad start, breezed five furlongs from the gate in 1:00.80.
- Improbable, also trained by Baffert, worked a half in :48.00.
- Jerry Hollendorfer trainee Instagrand, winner of the G2 Best Pal Stakes in August, breezed a half-mile in 47.60.
- Sham winner Gunmetal Gray, also trained by Hollendorfer, breezed five furlongs in 1:02.80.
