The top three contenders for the much-anticipated Fountain of Youth Stakes later this month at Gulfstream Park continued their preparations Monday with drills at the Palm Meadows training center in South Florida.

Union Rags went five-eighths in 1:03.08 with new rider Julien Leparoux aboard, pleasing trainer Michael Matz who said the son of Dixie Union was “right on schedule” for the Fountain of Youth.  Leparoux replaces Javier Castellano, who has chosen to ride Algorithms from the Todd Pletcher barn.  Algorithms turned in an easy half-mile in 49.20 while stablemate Discreet Dancer worked five furlongs Monday in 1:00.90.

“Algorithms just had a nice, steady maintenance kind of work and galloped out strong. He's very fit, we don't need to do much more with him,” Pletcher told the Daily Racing Form. “I thought Discreet Dancer worked extra good this morning. He looked full of run and galloped out strong. We made up some ground from what we lost last week and I'm very happy where we are with him at the moment.”
