Favored Bridgetown reeled in Great Mills in deep stretch to capture the $150,000 Woodford Stakes (gr. IIIT) by a length at Keeneland Oct. 6.
The 5-year-old son of Speightstown, which races as a homebred for Eugene Melnyk, improved his record to nine wins from 19 starts.
Ridden confidently by Javier Castellano, Bridgetown sat behind the early leader Great Mills and Ginplay. As the field hit the top of the stretch, Great Mills took the lead and looked to be on his way to victory, but Castellano was hard and work aboard Bridgetown, and the pair overtook Great Mills in the final furlong for the victory.
Great Mills was second, with Chamberlain Bridge a late-closing third. Final time for the 5 1/2-furlong turf contest 1:02.55.
