Australia supermare Winx broke a new record on Saturday, becoming the first Australian horse to win 30 consecutive races. The 7-year-old daughter of Street Cry captured the Group 2 Apollo Stakes at Randwick for a third time, extending her unbeaten streak and kicking off what is expected to be her final season of racing under regular jockey Hugh Bowman.
“I've been nervous for the past six weeks,” trainer Chris Waller told news.com.au before the race. “It's hard to gauge at home because she's a superior athlete.
“It's a huge story we're all part of.”
Winx is expected to make the final start of her illustrious career in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick on April 13. She will have two starts between the Apollo and the Queen Elizabeth.
