Fan Favorite Bodexpress Takes On Gulfstream-Loving Prince Lucky In Harlan’s Holiday

Bodexpress romps in a Nov. 20 allowance at Gulfstream Park West

Daniel McConnell's Prince Lucky, a back-to-back graded-stakes winner during the 2018-2019 Championship Meet, is prominent on the list of 16 nominations for the $100,000 Harlan's Holiday (G3), one of four graded stakes on the Dec. 14 program at Gulfstream Park.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Prince Lucky captured the Hal's Hope (G3) prior to scoring a 4 ¾-length victory in the Gulfstream Park Mile (G2) last season. The 4-year-old gelded son of Corinthian most recently finished fourth in the Bold Ruler (G3) after checking in a close second in the Kelso (G2) at Belmont.

Pletcher also nominated Nice Guys Stable's Extrordinary Jerry, a 10 ¼-length winner of the $150,000 Florida Sire Stakes Wildcat Heir at Gulfstream Park last time out, and Red Oak Stable's Bal Harbour, the third-place finisher in the Fayette (G2), who is entered in the Saturday's Cigar Mile (G1) at Aqueduct.

R.A. Hill Stable, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Hugh Lynch and Corms Racing Stable's Tax, a multiple graded-stakes winner who finished second in the Discovery (G3) at Aqueduct last time out, and Imaginary Stables and Glenn Ellis's War Story, a $2.9 million earner, are also nominated to the 1 1/16-mile Harlan's Holiday.

Top Racing LLC, Global Thoroughbreds LLC and GDS Racing Stable's Bodexpress, who finished second in the $1 million Xpressbet.com Florida Derby (G1) and competed in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness (G1) as a maiden, is being pointed for a return to graded-stakes competition in the Harlan's Holiday after a pair of eye-catching victories at Gulfstream Park West. The Gustavo Delgado-trained 3-year-old broke his maiden Oct. 14 and captured an optional claiming allowance by nearly seven lengths last time out.

The Harlan's Holiday will be joined on the Dec. 14 program by the $200,000 Fort Lauderdale (G2), $100,000 Rampart (G3), the $100,000 Sugar Swirl (G3), as well as the $100,000 My Charmer.

The Fort Lauderdale, a 1 1/8-mile turf stakes for 3-year-olds attracted 30 nominations, including John Gunther and Tanya Gunther's Without Parole, who finished third in the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) at Santa Anita Nov. 2. The Group 1 winner in Europe is trained by Chad Brown, who also nominated Juddmonte Farm Inc.'s Flavius and OXO Equine LLC's Instilled Regard.

Leonard Green's A Thread of Blue, a two-time winner at Gulfstream last season; and Calumet Farm's Channel Cat, the Bowling Green (G2) winner who finished seventh, beaten less than three lengths, in the Breeders' Cup Turf (G1), are also prominent among the nominations.

The Rampart, a mile stakes for fillies and mares, drew 20 nominations, including Cleber Massey's Blamed, the winner of the Royal Delta (G3) during the 21018-2019 Championship Meet. The Sugar Swirl, a six-furlong dash for fillies and mares, drew 20 nominations, including Matalona Thoroughbreds' Stormy Embrace, the back-to-back Princess Rooney (G2) winner. The My Charmer, a mile turf stakes for fillies and mares, attracted 24 nominations, including Mrs. J. V. Shields and E. J. H. McFadden Jr.'s Mitchell Road, winner on of the Gallorette (G3) on Preakness Weekend at Pimlico.
