As her half-brother Mr. Monomoy prepares to take on the G3 Lecomte this Saturday at the Fair Grounds, 2018 Eclipse Champion Monomoy Girl is expected to join trainer Brad Cox's barn at the New Orleans oval this week to continue preparing for her 2020 season.
Bloodstock agent Liz Crow, who picked out the 5-year-old daughter of Tapizar as a yearling for $100,000 at Keeneland September, Tweeted that the big mare would ship from Paul Sharp's Williston, Fla. farm to the Fair Grounds this week.
“Big thanks to everyone on (Sharp's) team including her rider Skylar Munden who did an excellent job,” Crow wrote on Twitter. “She sure doesn't owe us anything but excited to see what 2020 holds for the Champ.”
Monomoy Girl earned her Eclipse Award with victories in the G1 Ashland, G1 Kentucky Oaks, G1 Acorn, G1 CCA Oaks, and G1 Breeders' Cup Distaff. She also won the G2 Rachel Alexandra at the Fair Grounds, and crossed the wire first before she was disqualified to second in the G1 Cotillion at Parx later in the season.
The mare was brought back for the 2019 season, but a colic episode and later a pulled muscle kept her from entering the starting gate last year.
