Last year's Belmont Stakes winner Drosselmeyer will make his long awaited 4-year-old debut at Tampa Bay Downs Saturday in the $60,000 Challenger Stakes at 1 1/16 miles.
Drosselmeyer had originally been targeted to run in the Dubai World Cup March 26, but trainer Bill Mott said he came down with a fever, which caused him to miss six days of training.
“It's time for him to get in the game, “ Mott said Thursday morning, “He's been away eight months and we need to get him started back. Tampa's not too far away from a shipping standpoint, horses seem to get a lot out of having a race over that track, and this way we can get a race under his belt and get him ready to run down the road, perhaps at the Fair Grounds or Oaklawn Park.“
